Three Things to Know About Alcohol Testing

Alcohol testing is very popular with employers. Remember, alcohol testing is not a punishment. Employers need to know if you are worth taking a risk on during the hiring process. I had to go through one for one of my former jobs.

Are you being asked to have one done?

1) The liver takes at least one hour to metabolize one ounce of booze. A person who has a 0.15 blood alcohol level will have most of it dissolved within 10 hours. My advice is not to drink any alcohol for one week before a screening and one week after the screening.

Are you looking to go out and celebrate getting hired at your new job?

Wait until after the tests are done and then go out.

2) You may be required to take a urine test, a swab test, or both. Remember, the residue will still be in the system long after the alcohol has worn off. That is why you should wait at least one week to drink again. These test will pick up anything from cocaine to opiates in your system within that timeframe. You may not have anything to drink, but your body is still dissolving your last round.

3) How long will it take alcohol to show up in a blood test? This is a common question we get asked. The smallest bit of alcohol will show up 48 hours after you last ingested it. The ETG Urine Alcohol Test, which many employers use, takes 3-4 days to compute the results. Some use the 80-hour test to register ethyl glucuronide in the system.

Conclusion
